Alaina Belisle is a musician and private music instructor from Seattle, Washington. A Garfield High School alumna, she has completed a Maestra en Música degree in Viola Performance with a minor in chamber music from La Fundación Universitaria Juan N. Corpas in Bogota, Colombia under the tutelage of Raul Garcia. Alaina continued her education earning a Master of Music in Viola Performance degree from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) under the tutelage of Hsiaopei Lee and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship by the John P. and Ellen Moseley Scholarship Endowment. Alaina served as a student representative for the School of Music and as the Parliamentarian and Bylaws Committee Chair in the USM Graduate Student Senate. She has had experiences learning with renowned violists including Carrie Dennis, Richard O'Neill, and Roger Tapping. Alaina currently teaches private viola, violin, piano lessons, and performs in and around Seattle.  â€‹

 

While studying music in Colombia, Alaina learned Spanish through immersion and developed a deep appreciation for Colombian culture. Alaina has played pieces by Colombian composers including in the premiere of the opera El Último Día de Francisco Pizarro (2017) by Colombian-Catalonian composer Moisès Bertran in the Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia. She has also played the orchestral piece Taurus, sinfonía para cuerdas (2009) by Dr. Jorge Humberto Pinzón Malagón. Under the guidance of Dr. Pinzón, Alaina composed Ellipse (2015) for solo viola. Alaina has also composed pieces such as The Winding River (2011) for string quartet and March of the Dwarfs (2012)— a sextet for violin, viola, cello, flute, clarinet, and piano.​

 

Alaina has performed in Benaroya Hall in Seattle, WA; Carnegie Hall in New York City, NY; Alice Tully Hall in New York City, NY; Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo in Bogotá, Colombia; Auditorio León de Greiff in Bogotá, Colombia; and Museo Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia. She has participated in festivals such as International Music Festival of the Adriatic in Duino, Italy (2023), Festival Internacional de Música Esmeraldas in Quito, Ecuador (2016, 2017, 2018), Marrowstone Summer Music Festival (2010, 2011, 2012, 2017)— awarded a fellowship in 2017; Á Tempo Bogotá Festival Internacional de Música in Bogotá, Colombia (2015); Bogotá es Música in Bogotá, Colombia (2015), and ​Forte Festival in New York City, NY (2011-2012). Alaina has participated in the Seattle Youth Symphony, Garfield Symphony Orchestra, Academy Chamber Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica Juan N. Corpas, Orquesta Sinfónica del Conservatorio de Música de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, and the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. She has played in chamber music ensembles since 2008, including Quarteto Arce (2017-2018).
